'I was pretty concerned': Greensboro police investigate assault on Golden Gate Drive; one person suffers non-life-threatening injuries
Greensboro police are investigating an assault that left one person with non-life-threatening injuries on Friday.Police said officers were at the scene at least by 7 a.m.Golden Gate Drive was initially closed down from State Street to Church Street.Authorities later blocked Golden Gate Drive at Newlyn Street.WXII 12 News saw several police cars, an ambulance, and an armored police truck at the scene.Police began clearing the area at about 12:00 p.m. However, several officers stayed behind.WXII 12 News tried to speak with the assistant police chief to get more information. However, he said more details would later be released.Police later said they were investigating the case as an assault.They said one person in the case suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but they did not identify the person.WXII 12 News talked with a father who lives in the area and heard police arrive Friday morning.He said he was concerned for his family's safety when the standoff happened."My wife woke me up about 6 o'clock, maybe 5:30 a.m., saying she heard police was outside with the intercom asking the gentleman to come outside. We knew something bad was happening. There’s kids around. I have a kid. So I was pretty concerned. The next two hours before I went to work, we were keeping an eye out and just more cops and more cops. SWAT comes out," Patrick Henry said.He added, "They kept repeating for about two hours his address on Golden Gate and Howard to please come out with your hands up about two hours. My daughter heard that. She was scared. She didn’t know. She was asking us what was going on. Stuff like that. There was police at the bus stop this morning.
