Winter Storm Warning in the Mountains for Snow & Sleet

Mostly Cold Rain for Triad and Foothills

THAT FAN HAPPY. OH, YEAH. WE’VE GOT SOME SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES THAT ARE GOING TO BE IN THE FORECAST LATER THIS WEEK. LOUIS I THINK THE CAT JUST TRYING TO GET ALL THAT RAIN OUT OF HERE, RIGHT? WHAT A REALLY COLD, WET DAY. AND YES, IN GALAX THAT FELT SPARK IT CHANGED OVER TO SNOW AND THAT SNOW STARTED PILING UP. WE’VE GOT A COUPLE OF INCHES IN MANY SPOTS IN OUR MOUNTAIN TOWNS. AND THAT’S GOING TO BE A PROBLEM OVERNIGHT AND EARLY TOMORROW MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES THAT ARE DOWN BELOW FREEZING. NOW, WE ARE CLOSE TO 40 DEGREES RIGHT NOW IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. BUT TOMORROW MORNING, WE WILL GET DOWN REAL CLOSE TO FREEZING. WE’RE ALREADY BELOW THAT IN SPARTA AT 29 AND WE’VE GOT 32. IT MATTERS OF DAN BOONE ALSO AT 30 TO 40 DEGREES IN WILKES AND SURRY COUNTY. AND LOOK AT THE WIND, WHICH IS PRETTY STRONG OUT OF THE NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 TO 25 MILES AN HOUR. SO THAT MAKES IT FEEL LIKE IT’S IN THE LOW TWENTIES IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND ALL OF THAT WIND IS COMING AROUND. THAT LAST LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH IS PULLING AWAY SLOWLY. SO WE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE THE PRECIPITATION SHUT OFF AND WE’LL HAVE THE SKIES KIND OF THINNED OUT WITH PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES OVERNIGHT TOWARD TOMORROW MORNING. YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BIT OF WET WEATHER RIGHT NOW. ALAMANCE COUNTY ALSO SOME LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS UP TOWARD REIDSVILLE AND YANCEY BILL. ESTIMATED RAINFALL ANYWHERE YOU SEE GREEN, IT’S WELL OVER AN INCH AND MOST FOLKS GETTING CLOSE TO AN INCH OF RAIN. WE ACTUALLY HAD A RECORD SET OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS IN GREENSBORO AND I’M JUST NOW SEEING MY TYPO HERE. IT’S 1.26 INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS. AND THAT DOES BREAK THE RECORD FROM 1993, WHICH WAS JUST UNDER AN EDGE. SO 1.26 IN GREENSBORO, ALMOST AN INCH OF WINSTON-SALEM AT SMITH REYNOLDS AIRPORT, ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF, AND ASHEBORO, AS WELL AS BURLINGTON. THEN WE HAD ALMOST TWO INCHES OF RAIN IN MOUNT AIRY, AN INCH AND NORTH WILKESBORO IN AN INCH AND A QUARTER PLUS FOR HIGH POINT AND LEXINGTON. AND THEN HERE ARE SOME OF THE LATEST SNOWFALL TOTALS BEECH MOUNTAIN WITH THREE INCHES BLOWING ROCK WITH AN INCH OF SNOW. MATTERS OF DAN CLOSER TO A HALF OF AN INCH AND THAT SNOW AND SLEET THAT IS ON THE GROUND WILL ALSO CREATE SOME SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS. NOW WE’VE GOT WET ROADS IN THE FOOTHILLS AND PIEDMONT TRIAD. THEY’LL LIKELY STILL BE UP TOMORROW MORNING. SO THERE COULD BE SOME BLACK ICE, COULD BE A FEW SLICK SPOTS. SO JUST KEEP THAT IN MIND AS SOME TEMPERATURES IN THE AREA WILL GET DOWN PRETTY CLOSE TO FREEZING. SO BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES ESPECIALLY, NOTICE HOW QUICKLY WARM UP TOMORROW, THOUGH, WITH MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. WE’RE GOING TO MAKE A RUN AT 60 DEGREES TOMORROW AFTERNOON TO TRY IT UP TO ABOUT 58 IN THE FOOTHILLS. SO NICE DAY. WIND IS PRETTY STRONG IN THE MOUNTAINS, 10 TO 20 MILES AN HOUR. AND THAT’S GOING TO KEEP THOSE TEMPERATURES AROUND 50 DEGREES BY LATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON. IF YOU’RE TRAVELING TOMORROW ACROSS THE CAROLINAS, YOU’VE GOT SOME PRETTY MILD AIR AND SOME DRY SKIES. BY TUESDAY, WE WILL START TO BRING IN A FEW MORE CLOUDS, BUT NOTICE THAT THE TEMPERATURES ARE PLENTY WARM. WE ARE IN THE SIXTIES AGAIN ON TUESDAY. SO FOR VALENTINE’S DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS, YOU GET A HIGH OF 53, PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND TUESDAY IN THE FOOTHILLS AS WELL AS THE PIEDMONT. TRY IT LOW SIXTIES, ALSO A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUN. YOU’VE GOT SOME VALENTINE’S DAY PLANS FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH OR DINNER. OF COURSE, ARE GOING TO BE COLDEST IN THE MORNING AT 34 DEGREES, MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES, HIGH TEMPERATURE IN THE LOW SIXTIES, BUT A COMFORTABLE DRY EVENING IN THE MID TO UPPER FIFTIES. NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM IS WAY OUT OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. SO BETWEEN NOW AND THEN WE ARE FAIRLY DRY, BUT WE ARE BRINGING IN A CHANCE OF RAIN IN THAT THURSDAY TO FRIDAY TIME PERIOD. ALSO FOR THE FOOTHILLS AS WELL AS FOR THE MOUNTAINS. SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST, SO YOU’RE GOING TO SEE TRIAD TEMPERATURES REALLY SOARING. MID-SIXTIES WEDNESDAY, CLOSE TO 70 ON THURSDAY, AND THEN COLDER AND DRIER IN TIME FOR NEXT WEEKEND. ALL RIGHT. THANKS FOR ANY COMING UP IN SPORTS, SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IS UPON US. COLLEGE BASKETBALL ALSO TAKING CENTER STAGE. ALSO
