A community is shaken up after a deputy shot a suspect during a "suspicious person" investigation. It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning on Arnold Road, not too far from Lexington.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, when the deputy arrived on scene, the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle.
The deputy then tried to confront the suspect but the suspect ran. After a brief foot chase and struggle to arrest the suspect, the sheriff's office says the deputy shot the suspect.
We spoke to residents who live near the scene on their reaction to this happening right outside their door.
"That’s the biggest fear in the world and then having kids, and everything," resident Jerry Whisnant said. "I have a child, he's only a year and a half old. And we were in the house, anything could've happened."
Even after the scene cleared, residents still felt nervous.
"It feels a lot better but it’s also very scary to know that it's broad daylight; anybody can do anything," resident Lori Craver said.
"It's an eye opener to the reality that no matter where you are, danger can be right around the corner," Whisnant said.
The deputy was not shot in the incident.
Both the deputy and suspect were taken to a hospital.
The SBI has been called in to assist with this ongoing investigation.
