CENTURY AGO. FIRST TONIGHT, DAVIDSON COUNTY SHAKEN UP AFTER A DEPUTY SHOT A SUSPECT DURING A SUSPICIOUS PERSON INVESTIGATE ATION. THIS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER 11:00. THIS MORNING ON ARNOLD ROAD. THAT’S NOT TOO FAR FROM LEXINGTON, WXII 12 AS KARA PETERS SPOKE TO NEIGHBORS WHO SAW THE SCENE FIRSTHAND. SHE JOINS US LIVE FROM THE DAVIDSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WITH THEIR REACTION. AND KARA. HEY, THAT’S RIGHT. GOOD EVENING, KENNY AND CHRISTINE. RESIDENTS TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE WHAT THEY SAW TODAY, ESPECIALLY IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT’S NORMALLY QUIET. NOW, ACCORDING TO THE DAVIDSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. WHEN THE DEPUTY ARRIVED ON SCENE, THE SUSPECT WAS DRIVING A STOLEN VEHICLE. THE DEPUTY THEN TRIED TO CONFRONT THE SUSPECT, BUT THE SUSPECT RAN. AFTER A BRIEF FOOT CHASE AND STRUGGLE TO ARREST THE SUSPECT, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAID THE DEPUTY SHOT THE SUSPECT. NOW, WE SPOKE TO RESIDENTS WHO LIVE NEAR THE SCENE ON REACTION TO THIS HAPPENING RIGHT OUTSIDE THEIR DOOR. THAT’S THE BIGGEST FEAR IN THE WORLD, YOU KNOW, AND HAVING KIDS AND EVERYTHING. I HAVE A CHILD UNDER HE’S ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF OLD, YOU KNOW, AND WE WERE IN THE HOUSE, YOU KNOW, AND ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED. FEELS A LOT BETTER. BUT IT’S ALSO VERY SCARY TO KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, IT’S WE’RE ALL DAYLIGHT AND IN THIS ANYBODY COULD DO ANYTHING. IT’S AN EYE OPENER TO REALITY THAT YOU, NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE. DANGER CAN BE AROUND THE CORNER. AND WE’RE TOLD THAT THAT DEPUTY WAS NOT SHOT IN THE INCIDENT. AND AT THIS TIME, THE SBI HAS BEEN CALLED IN TO ASSIST THIS ONGOING INVESTIGATION. A community is shaken up after a deputy shot a suspect during a "suspicious person" investigation. It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning on Arnold Road, not too far from Lexington. According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, when the deputy arrived on scene, the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle. The deputy then tried to confront the suspect but the suspect ran. After a brief foot chase and struggle to arrest the suspect, the sheriff's office says the deputy shot the suspect. We spoke to residents who live near the scene on their reaction to this happening right outside their door."That’s the biggest fear in the world and then having kids, and everything," resident Jerry Whisnant said. "I have a child, he's only a year and a half old. And we were in the house, anything could've happened."Even after the scene cleared, residents still felt nervous. "It feels a lot better but it’s also very scary to know that it's broad daylight; anybody can do anything," resident Lori Craver said."It's an eye opener to the reality that no matter where you are, danger can be right around the corner," Whisnant said.The deputy was not shot in the incident.Both the deputy and suspect were taken to a hospital.The SBI has been called in to assist with this ongoing investigation.
