TONIGHT’S A PLACE TO CALL HOME. I’M INTRODUCING YOU TO KYRA, WHO SAYS AT AGE 16 RIGHT NOW, MORE THAN EVER, SHE NEEDS AN ADOPTIVE FAMILY TO SUPPORT HER. WE WALKED THROUGH THE GREENSBORO SCIENCE CENTER TOGETHER WHERE I GOT TO KNOW, KYRA. FUNNY. I’M LOYAL. I’M INTELLIGENT. AND I’M DETERMINED. DETERMINATION IS SOMETHING KYRA HAS LEARNED EARLY ON. I’M PROUD OF NOT GIVING UP. WHEN STUFF WASN’T GOING THE WAY THAT I WANTED IT TO GO, I PRAYED AND I THINK ABOUT ON PAST THERE HOW FAR I HAVE COME. SO BE SOMETHING BETTER THAN MY PAST. SHE GOT A SPECIAL VIEWING OF THE AFRICAN PENGUIN EXHIBIT, WHICH WAS HER FAVORITE. AND WE GOT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH MAGGIE. THE IGUANA. KYRA PLANS TO ATTEND A HBCU AND STUDY CRIMINAL JUSTICE TO BECOME A FAMILY LAWYER BECAUSE OF HER UPBRINGING IN FOSTER CARE. SHE WANTS TO HELP FAMILIES IN A SIMILAR SITUATION SHE’S BEEN IN. I JUST WANT TO BE SOMEWHERE WHERE I CAN CALL HOME. AND SO I COULD FEEL LOVED. I SUPPORT IT AND TO HELP PROVIDE A LOVING PLACE TO CALL HOME FOR KYRA. 'I am proud of not giving up'

A 16-year-old girl is hoping to inspire other young girls and not let her experience in foster care get in the way of her dreams. Kyra said she longs for an adoptive family to support her. When asked how she describes herself, she said, "I’m funny, loyal, I am intelligent, and I am determined.” She walked through the Greensboro Science Center together with WXII 12's Audrey Biesk and got a special viewing of the African penguin exhibit, which was her favorite, then she got up close and personal with Maggie the iguana.Determination is something Kyra said she has learned early. “I am proud of not giving up when stuff wasn’t going the way I wanted it to go. I pray and I think about my past and how far I have come to be something better than my past,” Kyra said.Kyra plans to attend an HBCU and study Criminal Justice to become a family lawyer. She said that's because of her upbringing in foster care, and she wants to help families in similar situations to what she’s been in. “I just want to be somewhere that I can call home where I can feel loved and supported," Kyra said.
