Video showing bus driver swerving concerns Guilford County parents
A parent in Guilford County is asking the school district to investigate a bus driver he saw driving erratically. The driver was running a route along NC 150 yesterday morning.
WXII spoke to Micahel Sbhili, the parent who recorded the video of bus No. 1294 swerving through a neighborhood. He said he’s concerned about the district’s response.
"We just want to know that our kids are safe and they're handling it the right way," he said.
The video was taken by Sbihli on Tuesday morning. He was driving his kids to school when he noticed a bus driving erratically.
"They were crossing over the center of the road initially," he said. "And then when we got onto the main highway, it began riding the double yellow line and then driving into oncoming traffic."
Later in the video, you can see the bus driver nearly swerve into a ditch before correcting and getting back onto the road.
"I honestly believe that when it started going into the ditch it would have tipped over the way it was kind of leaning," Sbhili said. "But fortunately there was what looked like a driveway that was there were which seemed to kind of bumped it back upright. The bus driver's, I guess evasive maneuvers, kind of got it back on the road."
Sbihli said after reaching out to the school he spoke with other parents.
"Aa couple of them have reached out to the principal of the school," he said. "And I think also the transportation department. So I think it's getting attention from them, but no official response or anything conclusive yet."
Guilford County Schools told WXII the driver experienced a health-related issue and another staff member accompanied that bus driver for the afternoon route. A substitute driver will handle the route during the investigation.
