64-year-old man found dead in Winston-Salem house fire, officers say
HOSPITAL. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO WAS PULLED FROM A BURNING HOME THIS MORNING. JOSHUA DAVIS JOINS US LIVE OUTSIDE THAT HOME ON GERMANTON ROAD TONIGHT. JOSHUA. POLICE SAY 64 YEAR OLD WADE THOMAS SPENCER DIED AFTER A HOUSE FIRE HERE ON GERMANTON ROAD THIS MORNING. FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AROUND 7:30 A.M. SPENCER WAS FOUND INSIDE THE HOME. CREWS PERFORMED CPR, BUT HE DIED. POLICE SAY THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL IN ITS EARLY STAGES. THEY ALSO SAY IT’S TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE IF FOUL PLAY WAS INVOLVED. SPENCER SISTER REBECCA SULLIVAN SAID HE LIVED A QUIET LIFE, BUT HE WAS KNOWN TO HELP HIS NEIGHBORS. WE LOVED HIM AND WE’D GET TOGETHER WHEN WE COULD. AND I KNOW HE’S IN A BETTER PLACE NOW, AND WE’RE GOING TO MISS HIM. Winston-Salem firefighters were called to a house fire Tuesday at 7:20 a.m. Crews were at a home in the 4700 block of Germanton Road. The battalion chief on the scene said neighbors told firefighters someone was inside the house. The Winston-Salem Police Department identified the victim as 64-year-old, Wade Thomas Spencer. Police said it was too early to determine if foul play was involved. They said the Winston-Salem Fire Department and the Winston-Salem Police Department will work with the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office during this investigation.The road was closed for several hours before reopening after noon.WXII 12's Joshua Davis spoke to neighbors, who said they would often see him mowing grass or cleaning up trash in the neighborhood.Spencer's sister, Rebecca Sullivan, said he did that because he was their friend. "We loved him and we'd get together when we could," said Sullivan. "And I know he's in a better place now.       Crews brought the person outside and performed CPR, but they died. The Winston-Salem Police Department identified the victim as 64-year-old, Wade Thomas Spencer.

      Police said it was too early to determine if foul play was involved. They said the Winston-Salem Fire Department and the Winston-Salem Police Department will work with the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office during this investigation.
