Man in critical condition after drive-by shooting on Highway 421
A man is in critical condition after a drive-by shooting on Saturday morning.
Just after midnight, patrol officers with the Winston Salem Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Highway 421 North.
Officers found a 31-year old man in his vehicle on the off ramp of Highway 421 North, near Jonestown Road.
The victim was shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital, according to officers.
Investigators said the victim was traveling North on Highway 421 near Old Vineyard Road when a dark colored Nissan passenger vehicle pulled next to the victim’s car and several people in the Nissan vehicle fired multiple times into the victim’s vehicle.
The victim was able to continue to drive north on Highway 421 to the off ramp toward Jonestown Road where he called 911.

Officers said they found approximately 16 spent shell casings on Highway 421 North under the bridge that is Old Vineyard Road.
No other witnesses have been located at this time. The scene was processed by WSPD Forensics.
At this time, officers say the motive of this crime is unknown.
The victim’s injuries are serious and his current medical condition is stable but critical, according to police.
