This Saturday and Sunday in Greensboro, a local organization plans to celebrate Black excellence right here in the Triad.Jordan Lee is the founder and CEO of a Celebration of Black Excellence, which will be hosting its fifth annual festival at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center on April 30 and May 1. ACOBE Fest 2022"It's powerful. That's why it's important. It's important to show the Triad that Black excellence lives everywhere," Lee said. "This is an exercise for all people to come together and exercise that humanity. It's not about excluding anyone. We want all people to come in and learn and do and celebrate."The free festival will begin Friday night, ending on Sunday.Live performances, dancing and art workshops, food trucks and professional development will all be featured throughout the event. "I'm humbled every time I get to experience someone finding themselves inside this space and I know that I'm doing my life's work," Lee said. The festival presents an opportunity for representation and growth that Lee wishes he had when he was younger. " being able to see yourself somewhere in itself is important and being able to have the opportunity to come together in ways you naturally wouldn't or didn't know that you could," Lee said.ACOBE's 2021 festival was virtual, adding to this year's excitement for the upcoming event. "Hopefully this sparks for someone, another kid one day or another adult, to turn around and see the community they want to celebrate and they want to be a part of and go through that," Lee said.
