On Feb. 24 at just 30 years old, Forsyth County resident and North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Ethan Bradshaw had a massive heart attack.
"We were training on our own doing a little bit of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which we both teach. When we were both getting ready for work he wasn’t feeling good and I all of the sudden received a phone call bout ten minutes before heading out to work from his father in law saying he had a massive heart attack and they were performing CPR," said one of Bradshaw's closest friends and fellow trooper John Mastromonica.
Bradshaw was moved out of the intensive care unit last Friday and is on the road to recovery.
"He’s doing a lot better, he’s started physical therapy and we’re hoping he’ll be back to work by the end of the year," Mastromonica said. "He’s made great steps and is doing very well so far."
Mastromonica and Bradshaw have been good friends since they graduated from the 136th Basic Highway Patrol School and were sworn in as troopers in 2014.
"He’s honestly the best guy I know. He gives back so much does so much training on his own to try to better the community, the patrol and law enforcement as a whole," Mastromonica said. "He gives so much back on his own time and it's outstanding to see the support he’s received through this difficult time."
The community is attempting to raise money to help Bradshaw and his family pay for medical bills. Bradshaw and his wife are expecting their first child in July.
Kernersville Bagel is selling fundraiser T-shirts for $25 with all proceeds going to the Bradshaw family. The shirts can also be ordered through the Trooper Bradshaw Fundraiser Facebook page.
"We’re trying to help out with medical bills and also baby expenses trying to take a little stress off their plate," Mastromonica said. “I was at the hospital with him yesterday and he’s back to his usual spirits. He likes to play around and joke and kid. He’s a fun-loving guy.”
You can pre-order a shirt by clicking here or by stopping into Kernersville Bagel at 931 S. Main St. in Kernersville. All orders need to be in by Monday, March 21.
There is also a GoFundMe page set up for the family you can find by clicking here.
