The North Carolina Supreme Court ruled Molly Corbett and her father, Thomas Martens, should get a new trial in the murder of Corbett's husband, Jason Corbett.Jason Corbett was killed in his home on Panther Creek Court in 2015. Molly Corbett and Martens argued it was self-defense.Molly Corbett and Martens were convicted in Davidson County Court for second-degree murder in 2017. The two were sentenced to at least 20 years in prison.In February 2020, a court of appeals ruled 2-1 to overturn the murder convictions after finding a judge made errors that denied the defendants a fair trial. Prosecutors then filed an appeal.The State Supreme Court upheld the court of appeals Friday in a 4-3 vote.
