International Civil Rights Center and Museum celebrates 10th anniversary
It's been 20 years since the opening of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro."Don't ever request permission to start a revolution, because people don't like change," said one activist on the opening day. The museum is at the Old Woolworth Building, where the sit-in movement began 60 years ago.The three surviving members of the A&T Four, who sat at the whites-only lunch counter in 1960, were in town for the dedication."Never again should we as Americans ever let anything like this happen," one person said.A snowstorm had hit the Triad just days before the ceremony, causing crews to work hard to make sure people could reach the center for opening day.The snow did not stop people, who knew there was only one historic anniversary to celebrate the accomplishments and history of civil rights.
